Abiram

Uh-bi´ruhm; Heb., “my father is exalted” or “the Exalted One is my father”

1 A Reubenite who conspired to challenge the authority of Moses and the priestly leadership of Aaron. Abiram, along with Korah and Dathan as well as their families and possessions, perished when the ground opened and swallowed them (Num 16:1-40; Ps 106:16-18). 2 The firstborn son of Hiel the Bethelite (1Kgs 16:34). He died (possibly as a human sacrifice) when his father rebuilt the Jericho gates (1Kgs 16:34), fulfilling the word of Joshua (Josh 6:26).
